Keep real issue in mind

Re: 'Residents up in arms about floodlights in neighbourhood,' March 13, News.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, there was a community meeting where Ward 7 (York West) Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti, the Basilian Fathers, City of Toronto parks and recreation Staff and Intelligarde Security Company were invited to speak.

The Basilian Fathers did not attend. Only one out of the 50 people who started the petition against the lights was present.

Expecting that a person would be personally invited to a community meeting is simply unrealistic as it is our duty as people living in this community to stay informed and get involved in what is going on around us.

As well any and all precautions were taken in order to ensure the neighboring residences will not be disturbed by the lights. With regards to safety concerns, the lights are recommended and all of the proper investigation was conducted to ensure the plant and wildlife will not be harmed by the floodlights.

Those community members who allow their personal feelings about certain elected officials - rather than the security of a bright future for our children - influence their actions should be ashamed of themselves.
