Great kids at St. Jane Frances school

Recently a parent from St. Jane Frances Catholic Elementary School submitted my name for the Smile of The Week feature.

To me this was quite an honour. The words alone were emotional and I know they were from the hearts of the Nasso family members.

However, I would like to point out what actually makes me smile each day at work. The answer is the students, staff and parents at St. Jane Frances.

You always hear that Jane and Finch has a rough reputation. Well, those people have never been to our school. The children here have the most incredible hearts and souls. They have so much to offer life and have touched me in a way I never thought possible.

I have worked here for more than nine years and never once have I thought to change my employment as it would feel like I was abandoning family. Each child here is truly the heart of the community. The students are giving, caring and so protective. They respect the staff and maybe on those days they don't, it's because they too might be having a bad day - just like we adults.

Sometimes I believe we are so fast on condemning or are not willing to listen with our hearts. If we were to do that, we would see that these children are looking to us as adults to show them the way.

We say that children are a reflection of our parents and that is correct, but we have these young adults for eight hours so they are also a reflection of us. Our students are talented, bright and so full of life. They have an incredible sense of humour, which to me is what will give them the ability to thrive. They are not quitters and I know that with a little push, they will one day rule the world in such a positive way. Anybody coming to our school will tell you what a pleasure it is to be here.

I am proud to know all the students who have passed through our doors and I thank God everyday for being able to be part of this school.

I love these children, parents and staff. The staff here do not work nine to five but spend as much time with their children as needed. They really give their all.

I just wish that the staff, students and parents can be nominated for the Smile of the Week or, in my eyes, the Smile in My Life. For that I wish to thank St. Jane Frances for giving my smile and for giving me a reason to come to my other family. This is not a job to me but my second family.

Come to our school and see just how wonderful students, parents and staff are.
