Reduced packaging would create less litter
In the city's notice about April 19 cleanup day, the public is asked to pick up litter in public places such as parks or watercourses.
The kind of event seems to happen every spring in many municipalities and has for decades.
If our governments - municipal and provincial - banned no-deposit, non-returnable, non-recyclable packaging, much litter would not exist.
Why not go to the source - to the makers and distributors of drinks, food and junk food packaged in throwaway non-reusable material?
It would be more responsible of our governments to ban plastic packaging not to ask us to clean it up.
