It’s time to visit the Beach!
Last year, our dog rescue group was asked to join in an event called Slobberfest and we are going to participate again this year.
It will be held on Saturday, July 7 at Woodbine Park, at Lake Shore Boulevard and Woodbine Avenue, and has been likened to a mini Woofstock for those of you who experienced that weekend of complete dogdom.
The Slobberfest fundraising event will benefit Community Centre 55, a community-based organization developed by, and accountable to, the community.
Community Centre 55 helps people help themselves. It is a City of Toronto agency offering a range of community services including seniors fitness classes, children’s licensed programs, a book club, teen drop-in, summer camp, golf tournament, harvest festival – and Slobberfest. Proceeds from this event will be allocated specifically to the Share a Christmas Program and the Pet Lover’s Program.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Slobberfest Packathon Parade.
Both ends of the leash are invited to Slobberfest.
The event will see dogs of every size, colour and description showing off while their owners do some shopping and socializing. There will be a series of participation contests for dogs: Slobber King and Queen, Canine Diva Award, Best Canine Trick, Best Canine Howl and Longest Tail, not mention the coveted Dog Most Like Its Owner award.
The Who’s Walking Who Woof Jocks, a canine performance troupe, will perform. There will be workshops on cooling down pets by Carl Milton of A Touch Love Inc., while pet wellness expert Hillar Sorra will speak on health and exercise. A professional veterinarian will be on hand for the popular Ask A Vet feature.
Slobberfest is free to the public and accessible by TTC. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details, visit www.centre55.com or call 416-691-1113.
