A man believed to be a Rexdale resident has been charged for allegedly selling child pornography on the internet, police say.
Const. Tony Vella, of public information, said the police received a tip from www.cybertip.ca and began an investigation.
“It is alleged that a man was offering child pornography for sale through the mail,” he told insidetoronto.com, “and that the suspect sold child pornography discs to an undercover officer.”
Det. Paul Krawczyk, of the sex crimes unit, confirmed that some of the seized discs contained illegal footage shot of controversial porn-actress Traci Lords when she was underage. Lords was arrested along with the owners of her company, X-Citement Video, in 1986 after authorities found out she had been underage at the time the movies were made. The ensuing court-battle cost the porn industry millions of dollars as they were forced to remove hundreds of thousands of her video tapes from their shelves.
Glenn Chartrand, 61, whose pornography website lists a Rexdale address, has been charged with of possession of child pornography, two counts of making child pornography available, and two counts of distributing child pornography.
Krawczyk alleges the suspect advertised on the internet, and then delivered the tapes personally.
He said thousands of DVDs have been confiscated and it will take time to go through them all. The accused was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, today at 10 a.m.
