Use skating funds to keep pools open

The Toronto District School Board, due to budget constaints, have closed 23 perfectly good indoor swimming pools just when kids need them during the summer. The programs serve needy and disabled children. Toronto City Council is planning to build a new skating oval, complete with concession stand and zamboni, in Sam Smith Park. The location is strongly opposed, mostly because it is a passive park rather than an active park.

Why not let the proposed skating oval money be transferred to keeping the pool programs open?

It makes sense to keep needed recreation facilities running before opening new ones. It is all money from the public purse.
