Cheap export goods keep us afloat

Re: 'China Must Raise Export Prices', letter to the editor, May 28.

I would like to point out first of all that cheap products from China and other less developed countries have helped to keep inflation at a very low level for the last decade and more. Do we want more inflation for every day goods in addition to the recent spikes in gas and food?

Second of all, it is human nature to try and help others in their time of need. We offer this help to victims of disasters regardless of our feelings about their governments. Case in point, Canadians offered aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Is U.S. not capable of aiding its own citizens?

Moreover, the quick and efficient aid response by the Chinese government following the Sichuan earthquake has been praised by the world as reported in the media.
