Toronto police probe link between Canadian Tire and Mac's robberies

City Centre Mirror

Police in Toronto are investigating whether an attempted robbery Sunday night and a robbery early Monday were perpetrated by the same man.

At 10:18 p.m. March 19, a man jumped onto the counter and demanded money at the Canadian Tire gas station at 835 Yonge St.

The suspect, who is white and 30-to-40 years old, fled empty-handed.

At 12:48 a.m. March 20, a man walked behind the counter and asked for cash at the Mac’s Convenience store at 96 Gerrard St. E.

“He did receive some money,” police spokesperson Const. Victor Kwong said.

There were no weapons used in either holdup, and no one was hurt.

“It may be the same person. We’re not sure,” Kwong said.

The holdup squad is investigating.
