Caribbean culture lights up LAMP festival

Etobicoke Guardian

LAMP Community Health Centre is bringing the sights and sounds of the Caribbean to its front lawn.

Streetbana is a family celebration which will feature island favourites such as curry and barbecue chicken, ox tail, fry plantain, rice and peas and more.

The event, which takes place on Thursday, July 28 from 4 to 8 p.m., is a precursor to the upcoming Scotiabank Caribbean Festival formally known as Caribana.

It takes place at LAMP, located at 185 Fifth St. and will treat visitors to the sounds of The Soaring Eagles, a steel drum band and DJ Dee Loe will spin music for those who can't sit still.

The afternoon will also include a Jell-O eating contest, potato sack races and a jumping castle.

For more information on Streetbana call Dwane Abbott at 416-252-6471, ext. 308 or visit www.lampchc.org
