The Parkdale Film + Video Showcase is hosting a games night fundraiser for its 2014 summer programming.
Interested residents can participate in a “pinko bingo” mingling night in support of the community art collective’s 16th annual showcase of art and film.
“This is a community-oriented event,” said Executive Director Carolyn Tripp, adding that residents can expect snacks, drinks from local brewers and prizes from community artists.
This year’s fundraiser will be held at Capital Espresso Sunday, July 20. There is no cover charge and each bingo playing card costs $2.
Tripp said proceeds will be used to support Parkdale artists exhibiting works at this year’s showcase.
“It’s really important to us to be able to invite as many artists as possible to this festival. We represent a lot of artists that reside or work in Parkdale and show what’s relevant to what people are doing here,” Tripp said.
This year’s showcase will feature film screenings and a half a dozen window installations in local businesses.
“We’ve seen an increase in traffic when we have art in storefronts. It gets people interested in the space and gets them in the door,” Tripp said. A new walking tour across the installations is also in the works.
The Parkdale Film and Video showcase runs Aug. 8 to 10. Residents interested in attending the fundraiser should be at Capital Espresso, 1348 Queen St. West at 7 p.m.
