Five fun things to do for Family Day

Parkdale Villager

It’s a day designed for family fun, and on Monday, Feb. 18 there is no shortage of activities in the downtown west end for people to explore.

• Family Day at Fort York

Historic Fort York, 100 Garrison Rd. (416-392-6907, www.toronto.ca/museum-events)

Families can explore Toronto’s diverse and exciting history at Fort York. Visit the Fort’s historic kitchen and sample some traditional baking from the hearth. Hot chocolate and a roaring fire will make this a heartwarming and memorable visit. Free with admission from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Model Railroad Show

Model Railroad, 171 East Liberty St. Suite B1 (416-536-8927, www.modelrailroadclub.com)

After 75 years in Liberty Village, the railroad club is moving, but on Feb. 18, families can take one last peek into another world as the club opens its doors for their annual show. Visit the Central Ontario Railway, a world where miniature trains travel over more than 5,000 feet of track, passing by hills, small towns, forests and lakes connecting two major cities. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children.

• The Monkey Bunch Family Series

The Drake, 1150 Queen St. W. (www.themonkeybunch.com)

The Monkey Bunch takes over The Drake Hotel on Family Day. The unique band combines comedy, music and bananas in their shows. The show features songs from its debut album Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch, the acclaimed Juno-nominated Power to the Little People, and a sneak peek at some new material they are working on for their third release. The show starts at 3 p.m. and tickets are $10 a person or $30 for a family of four.

• Harbourkids Skating Festival

Harbourfront, Natural Rink, 207 Queens Quay W. (416-973-4000, www.harbourfrontcentre.com)

HarbourKIDS Skating Festival is packed with family fun from skating and snow castles outside to dance competitions and Rap Battlez inside. Get involved in some interactive theatre, create a self-portrait using various media, make a stuffed polar bear (registration required) or create something original in Lego.

• Family Day with the Toronto Marlies

Ricoh Coliseum, 100 Princes Blvd., Exhibition Place (www.marlies.ca)

On Feb. 18, the Toronto Marlies will face off against the Houston Aeros at 1 p.m. at the Ricoh Coliseum at Exhibition Place. The first 3,000 people to arrive will receive a Toronto Marlies lunch bag. Tickets range in price from $10 to $45. For tickets, visit www.marlies.ca
