A man was shot and wounded by a police officer Sunday in an apartment south of Highway 401 and east of McCowan Road.
The incident on the eighth floor of 1 Lee Centre Dr. was quickly placed under the jurisdiction of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit which were called by the Toronto Police Service to an apartment in the building at 6:50 p.m. on February 10.
When police arrived, stated the arms-length provincial agency in a release, there was an interaction between officers and a male, one officer fired his pistol and a man, age 31, was sent to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with a gunshot wound.
Media reports and Twitter comments said a woman with stab wounds to her neck was also carried out of the apartment unit.
The SIU, tasked with investigating all cases of serious injury caused by police in Ontario, said it assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to look into the incident.
