The circumstances surrounding the shooting injuries sustained by two people near a popular nightclub at Exhibition Place is the subject of a probe by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
According to the SIU, it was in the early morning hours of Feb. 10 when officers with the Toronto Police Service observed an altercation outside the Muzik nightclub, located inside the Exhibition Place grounds. Officers heard gunshots and saw a car leaving the area.
When the car failed to stop, officers shot at the car and the vehicle stopped a short distance away near the Dufferin Gate exit to Exhibition Place.
There were three people in the car and two of them were struck by “projectiles” and were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment.
The SIU has assigned seven investigators and three forensic investigators investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Zlatko Starkovski, the president of Muzik, released a statement Feb. 10, which said, “The shooting occurring early this morning in a parking lot located on Exhibition grounds did not occur inside Muzik or on the premises owned and operated by Muzik Night Club.”
Anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to contact the lead investigator with the SIU at 416-622-1957.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
