Di Giorgio named Toronto’s new budget chief
York South-Weston Councillor Frank Di Giorgio is Toronto’s new budget chief.
Mayor Rob Ford’s executive committee voted to appoint Di Giorgio Tuesday, Feb. 5, morning, to replace Mike Del Grande, the Scarborough-Agincourt councillor who’s overseen the budget for the first half of the Ford administration.
Di Giorgio has also sat on the city’s budget committee since the 2010 municipal election. He was first elected to Toronto Council in 2000.
Prior to that, he had served as a North York councillor from 1985 to 1997.
Mayor Ford sang Di Giorgio’s praises in a news release following his appointment.
“Frank is an experienced and well-qualified councillor who’s sat on the budget committee since 2010,” said Ford. “He helped us get to a sustainable budget and understands where we’re going. I’m confident he will work diligently to deliver what taxpayers expect –budgets that keep taxes affordable and reduce the size and cost of government while maintaining quality customer service through increased efficiency.”
