Kyriakos (Kostas) Karygiannis, a Scarborough resident and father of Scarborough-Agincourt MP Jim Karygiannis, has died.

The elder Karygiannis, who was 78, passed away Sunday at the General campus of The Scarborough Hospital after a short illness, his family said.

Visitation will be at Highland Funeral Home near Sheppard and Warden avenues this Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m.
The longtime Liberal MP has described his father as a union leader who found refuge in Canada while Greece was ruled by a military dictatorship, and said he continued working here to bring democracy back to his homeland.
