Kidnapping suspects arrested near North York mall

Five people are under arrest following a kidnapping in York Region that ended at Jane Street and Wilson Avenue Wednesday, Jan. 16.

York Regional Police were called to the Keele Street and Major Mackenize Drive area for a home invasion around 11 a.m.

A car fled the scene with six people inside, including a man who had been kidnapped from the home.

The chase ended in the Sheridan Mall parking lot. Four suspects were arrested and the kidnapped man freed, but a fifth suspect fled on foot and briefly disappeared inside the mall. He was arrested a short time later.

The kidnapped man was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Chalkfarm Public School, St. Gerard Majella Catholic School and St. Philip Neri Catholic School were put in hold and secure mode due to the large police presence in the area for several hours.
