Police from York’s 13 Division have arrested an Israeli man in a fraud investigation targeting the Jewish community.
Police said a man would approach and befriend Jewish women in the subway, telling him he’s a visitor from Israel. Once gaining their trust, the man told them he has financial issues and asks for a loan, promising to repay them when he returns home. The victims would then turn over a quantity of money to the man.
Police are reminding the public, especially members of the Jewish community, to remain vigilant when interacting with strangers.
Israel Aharonovitz, 63, is charged with four counts of fraud under $5,000.
Police believe there may be more victims.
