Registration for a new Catholic elementary school in Morningside Heights set to open in September 2013 will take place this month.
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic School, located at 8 Seasons Dr. in Scarborough (near McNicoll Avenue and Morningside Drive), will serve students from kindergarten to Grade 8 in a new, state-of-the-art facility.
Registration for the school is being held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; evening registration will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m.
“This is but one of the many new schools and school additions that have been undertaken by the board over the past few years,” TCDSB Director of Education Bruce Rodrigues said of the new, 467-pupil elementary school.
“Our focus is to build better schools that meet the diverse needs of our student population. At Toronto Catholic, our goal is to ensure that every student has the tools and resources they need to support their learning for the 21st century.”
When it opens in September, the new, barrier-free Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic School will include an elevator and accessible washrooms.
To accommodate full-day kindergarten, the school will also feature purpose-built classrooms and well-defined, student-friendly playground areas that combine hard and soft landscaping.
Environmentally friendly by design, the new school building also incorporates enhanced access to natural light, water efficient landscaping, high performance windows and a cool white roof.
“We remain committed to investing in our school facilities through an ambitious capital, renewal and maintenance plan,” TCDSB Chair Ann Andrachuk said in a statement. “With our focus on stewardship of resources, we have made some solid financial decisions that have allowed us to make these types of investments into new schools, and to ensure our students have good places to learn.”
To register their children at Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, parents or guardians are required to bring the following documents to registration:
1. Child’s Birth Certificate (Certificate of Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status)
2. Child’s Catholic Baptismal Certificate (or other proof of Catholicity)
