Scarborough Sharks set to host annual Ice Trials girls hockey tournament

The Scarborough Sharks Girls Hockey Association is set to hold its 29th annual Ice Trials female hockey tournament from Friday to Sunday (Jan. 4 to 6).

The filled-to-capacity tournament, with 119 teams and 1,800 players, is split into six age divisions (atom, peewee, bantam, midget, intermediate and senior) at the four top skill levels (aa, a, bb, b).

Canlan Ice Sports-Scarborough, located at 159 Dynamic Dr., is the headquarters but numerous other Scarborough arenas are also being used for the tournament, including:

• Commander Arena, 140 Commander Blvd. • Malvern Arena, 30 Sewells Rd.

• Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre, 2467 Eglinton Ave. E.

• Scarborough Gardens Arena, 75 Birchmount Rd.

• Canlan Ice Sports-Victoria Park, 3550 Victoria Park Ave., North York.

Furthest flung Ontario teams are coming in from Timmins and Temiskaming Shores while a team from Syracuse, New York will add some international flavour.

More info can be found at www.scarboroughsharks.com/ SHA TOURNEY JAN. 10 TO 13 The Scarborough Hockey Association is hosting its 60-team select tournament from Jan. 10 to 13.

Teams are split into 11 age divisions from ‘novice-6’ to the juvenile division, all at the select (all-star house league) level. Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre, 2467 Eglinton Ave. E., is hosting all of the Sunday championship games.

Other arenas in use include:

• Commander Arena, 140 Commander Blvd.

• Malvern Arena, 30 Sewells Rd.

• Agincourt Recreation Centre, 31 Glen Watford Dr.
