Woman dead after weekend fire near Roncesvalles

Bloor West Villager

A woman died in a house near Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street West late Sunday, Dec. 23.

Fire crews arrived at 304 Sorauren Ave. at 10:20 p.m. Two people had escaped unharmed. The blaze originated in the living room and spread throughout the same floor, according to District Chief Stephan Powell.

Fifty firefighters and 17 trucks extinguished the fire relatively quickly, he said. The fire marshal is investigating. The cause has yet to be determined. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. There were smoke alarms, but it’s unknown whether or not they were working properly, said Powell.

Firefighters remained on scene throughout the night.
