St. John the Compassionate Mission in Riverside needs volunteers to help with its annual Christmas Day dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 25.
People are needed to assist with hall set up, food preparation and serving.
Those interested in helping prepare food are needed from 8 a.m. to noon, table set-up is from noon to 4 p.m. and serving/clean-up help is required from 4 to 9 p.m.
Orientation sessions will be held at the local mission, at 155 Broadview Ave. just north of Queen Street East, on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. or on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.
Volunteers must be 16 or older.

Aside from having a need for volunteers, St. John the Compassionate is also urgently in need of a variety of items for the wide range of programs it offers for marginalized and vulnerable individuals notably powdered/fresh eggs, powdered/fresh milk, rice, tomato sauce, sugar, canned tomatoes, canned veggies, canned fish, juice, dried/canned beans (all varieties), condiments, quinoa/bulgar wheat, pancake mix, oatmeal, mac and cheese, herbs, regular coffee, fresh vegetables, diapers (newborn to size 4 and adult), tea and dish soap.
The local mission also has an urgent need for sleeping bags.
