Dozens of colourful flags will once again grace the porches and front lawns of homes along Leuty and Violet avenues this holiday season.
The second annual DailyFlag for DailyBread project, an Advent-inspired community art fundraiser for the Daily Bread Food Bank, is set to kick off for the season Saturday, Dec. 1.
This time around, more than 30 local home owners are set to take part in the month-long silent auction and food collection, which Beach residents Benedict Hilliard and Michelynn Laflèche launched last year in the community.
The 2011 campaign raised more than $5,500 as well as more than 700 pounds of non-perishable food for the Etobicoke-based food bank’s annual holiday drive.
This year, organizers are hoping to raise $7,500 plus as many food donations as possible.
As always, the overall goal of DailyFlag for DailyBread is to raise awareness about how poverty is affecting people and the important role food banks play in helping make ends meet.
