Swansea Public School teacher killed in a hit-and-run while cycling
Bloor West Villager
A Swansea Public School teacher was killed in a hit-and run collision early Friday morning at Davenport Road and Lansdowne Avenue early Friday morning.
Tom Samson, a Grade 2 teacher, was riding his bike when he was struck by a mini-van around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 23. He was attempting to cross to the north side of Davenport Road from the east side of Lansdowne Avenue when the minivan travelling westbound hit him. The driver fled.
The force of the impact threw Samson, 35, into the path of an eastbound van that also struck him. The second vehicle’s driver, a 63-year-old man, remained at the scene.
Samson was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital where he died.
Police are appealing to the public for help in locating the driver of the red or burgundy Chrysler minivan with front-end damage to the left, front bumper, fender, hood and headlight areas.
