Suspect, 16, arrested in East York shooting, second man sought

Police have arrested a male and are looking for another in connection with a shooting in East York that injured a 19-year-old man.

The shooting happened at 500 Dawes Rd. shortly after 2 p.m. Nov. 11.

Police said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Nov. 15, the 54 Division major crime unit executed a search warrant in relation to the case and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

The accused can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police continue to look for a second suspect.

Dwayne Vernal, 20, is wanted for attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing an unauthorized firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
