Lanes open after trucks collide on Hwy. 401 near Keele

A man was charged with careless driving Friday after a tractor-trailer rear-ended a construction vehicle parked on the shoulder of Hwy. 401, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
The crash happened in the westbound express lanes just east of Keele Street around 7 a.m.
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the driver of the construction vehicle was outside working at the time.
No one was hurt. The tractor-trailer wasn’t carrying cargo, but fuel leaked from the vehicle into a catch basin, which had to be cleared out.
Police initially closed all express lanes and two collector lanes for the investigation and cleanup. “Then we opened them up bit by bit,” Woodford said.
The westbound lanes were jammed with traffic between Hwy. 404 and Keele for the remainder of the morning.
