A free screening of The Interrupters: An Alternative Approach to Crime Prevention, will be shown Thursday, Nov. 22, at York Civic Centre, 2700 Eglinton Ave., at 7 p.m.
The film, which showcased at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of former gang members who disrupt violence in their Chicago neighbourhoods as it happens, striving to protect their communities from the brutality they once employed.
The screening will be held by York South-Weston MPP Laura Albanese and York South-Weston Councillor Frank DiGiorgio, in collaboration with the city’s youth gang prevention project Prevention Intervention Toronto.
An audience discussion with community leaders will take place following the film.
Light refreshments will be served.
