On Remembrance Day, Canadian war veterans will get to take transit in Toronto for free.
Both the TTC and GO Transit are offering veterans and peacekeepers the opportunity to ride for free on all vehicles all day Sunday, Nov. 11. In addition, one companion can also travel at no charge.
Veterans are asked to display any service medals, ribbons or military attire to identify themselves to transit operators.
TTC will also halt all of its vehicles at 11 a.m. on Sunday to observe two minutes of silence to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Riders will be notified immediately before the pause in service.
Also this weekend, TTC has announced there will be no subway service between St. Andrew and Union Stations due to construction of a second platform at Union. The project is part of the ongoing revitalization of Union Station. TTC is advising riders to make use of streetcars to travel between the connections.
Service between the two stations will stop after the last train shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, is scheduled to resume in time for the Monday, Nov. 12, morning rush at 6 a.m.
