A woman in her 50s has died after being stabbed multiple times in an incident in the downtown core.

Police were called to 510 Ontario Street at 7:04 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and found the victim in a laneway suffering from multiple stab wounds.

She was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

According to reports, a man approached the woman from behind and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time. They are investigating the incident and looking at security camera video taken from the area.

The stabbing marks the 43rd murder in the city this year.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5’10” tall, wearing a cap and dark clothing.
