SIU probes teen’s fall from balcony

The case of a 16-year-old girl who fell 14 storeys to her death from an Etobicoke apartment building early Tuesday, Oct. 23 morning is being probed by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Toronto police responded to an emergency call at 52 Mabelle Ave. (in the Bloor Street West and Islington Avenue area) sometime after midnight Tuesday morning.
Upon arrival, officers reportedly saw the girl hanging from a fourteenth floor balcony. While the officers tried to speak with her from an adjacent balcony, the girl fell to the ground to her death.
The Coroner’s officers notified the SIU – an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault – about the incident on Tuesday morning.
The SIU has since assigned two investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident. A post-mortem is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Toronto.
