Bus trapped under live wires after crane collapse on Kipling Road

A crane collapse at 2233 Kipling Rd. early Monday afternoon downed two hydro poles and trapped a TTC bus underneath live electrical wires for about 40 minutes.

None of the 28 passengers aboard the 45 Kipling bus was injured during the incident, which took place around 1:45 p.m., said TTC spokesperson Jessica Martin.

Toronto Hydro spokesperson Jennifer Link said crews had to “de-energerize” the wires before the passengers and bus operator could safely disembark the bus around 2:25 p.m.

She estimated around 400 people are currently out of power due to the incident, which took place on the construction site of a long-term care facility belonging to Kipling Acres. She wasn’t sure when power would return.

Link wouldn’t speculate on the nature of the accident.

“All I can tell you is a crane took out two of our poles,” she said.

Police have advised everyone to avoid the area.

Martin said the 45 Kipling bus service is diverting in both directions until further notice.
