Two rescued from Bloor West apartment fire

Bloor West Villager

Firefighters rescued two people from a fire that broke out in their apartment above a Bloor West Village store early Friday, August 17.

Firefighters arrived on scene before 2:30 a.m. where they discovered two adults trapped in their second floor apartment on Bloor Street West, near Runnymede Road.

“Firefighters put a ladder to the second floor to reach one of the people,” Toronto Fire Services Captain Stephan Powell told The Villager.

The fire first started in the kitchen and was confined to one room on the second floor.

“The smoke and fire blocked (the tenants’) exit,” said Powell.

The victims suffered smoke inhalation.

Eleven trucks and 36 firefighters battled the blaze, which caused an estimated $35,000 damage.
