Torontonians are reminded they can take advantage of low electricity costs over the August long weekend.
Electricity will be priced at 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) from Saturday, Aug. 4, to the end of day Monday, Aug. 6, Toronto Hydro said in a release.
Off-peak hour prices fall on weekends and statutory holidays. Toronto Hydro encourages users to take advantage of the pricing as they expect the unusually hot summer will result in higher electricity bills.
The regular time-of-use electricity prices Monday to Friday include:
• On-peak hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 11.7 cents per kWh
• Mid-peak hours from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 10 cents per kWh
• Off-peak hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at 6.5 cents per kWh.
The shift of electricity usage to off-peak hours helps reduce strain on the grid during peak periods.
