Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is appealing to your funny bone.
The North York hospital is hosting a star-studded lineup to raise money for its Holland Orthopedic and Arthritic Centre.The event will feature comedians Jessica Holmes and Ron James, along with Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila, Glass Tiger front man Alan Frew, the National Ballet of Canada's Sonia Rodriguez, Aleksander Antonijevic and Karen Kain, and classical violinist James Ehnes.They will join producer Ross Petty, renowned for his annual family theatre productions in Toronto, on stage for Night of Stars."We are thrilled that such amazing Canadian talent have thrown their support behind Sunnybrook's Holland Orthopedic and Arthritic Centre," said Graham Hallward, co-chair of Night of Stars and a member of the Holland musculoskeletal program campaign cabinet."The Holland Centre is Canada's largest centre for joint replacement surgery, where the most severe cases are treated using techniques developed by our own specialists."All the money raised from the event will fund a redeveloped state-of-the-art operating facility that will allow the centre to continue to provide exceptional hip and knee care.This is the sixth Night of Stars event, which is held every three years. Jeff O'Hagan, senior vice-president of development at the Sunnybrook foundation, said the event committee and Ross have worked hard to make this the best event to date."All of the proceeds raised will assist in building highly specialized operating suites to allow our surgeons to give back independence and a pain-free life to those who count on us when it matters most," he added.Night of Stars will be held May 17 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
