Students cycle inside at cancer fundraiser

Students from Victoria Park Collegiate will be spinning their wheels next week as they take part in the Inside Ride, an exercise bike cycling challenge to help raise funds for families and children coping with cancer.

The competition will pit student teams against one another, as they try to rack up the most mileage in 10-minute intervals. Each team will raise money through sponsorship donations.

Next week's event comes at the end of a three-week fundraising campaign the students had spearheaded in their community for the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, an organization that funds oncology camps and community support programs, as well as scholarships to help inspire children diagnosed with cancer.

On Friday, March 5, the school is expecting their cycle challenge will raise more than $10,000 for the Coast to Coast Foundation, but it is hoping to do even better. This is why school organizers are asking people to help bolster their efforts by making donations online at www.victoriapark.theinisderide.com

Teacher Veronika Nemes said she is hoping local businesses and organizations will show support, since it's "vital to the fundraiser's success."

Donations of $20 or more will be eligible for a tax receipt.
