Crown to withdraw charges against principal

An assault charge against a Scarborough elementary school principal related to an incident involving one of his teachers will be withdrawn by the Crown, a court was told Thursday.

Both the female complainant and the 41-year-old principal, Prince Duah, have agreed to mediation.

Duah, principal of Golf Road Public School northeast of Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road, is facing one count of assault stemming from an alleged encounter with one of his teachers during the school day on June 10. The 41-year-old Ajax resident turned himself in to police the following day.

A retired principal was brought in for the last few weeks of the school year. Police are not releasing the victim's name or details of the alleged assault.

The Toronto District School Board said Duah has been on home assignment.
