Toronto-based band Weston Silver Band (WSB) won gold at the North American Brass Band Championships on March 12.

The band reclaimed their first section division win of the music competition that’s held at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The band placed second in last year’s championship and first in 2015.

The championship had over 1000 musicians partaking this year.

The competition is divided into four sections: third division, second division, first division and championship.

WSB had won the first division competition with eight points above the ten bands that were also in the section.

This win is the third national title WSB has won since the band’s return to international competitions in 2014.

Composer of the piece and adjudicator Peter Graham said about WSB: “One of the best band sounds I’ve heard this weekend.”

WSB was the only Canadian band to participate in the championship and is the only Canadian band to take home the national title in the history of the competition.

The championship also held solo and ensemble competitions on March 10.

WSB were awarded three second place finishes, with a gold won by WSB member Alex Chan in the High Brass Solo Division.

This is the 96th season for WSB since beginning in 1921.
