Yes, the York Recreation Centre is finally opening.
The long-awaited and much-delayed centre at Eglinton Avenue West and Black Creek Drive is slated to open on Family Day Weekend with an open house happening all three days this weekend.
Family Day weekend hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to Monday.
The centre will open for regular hours starting Tuesday, Feb. 21.
“Family Day weekend will be a community celebration as we invite residents to join us for fun pool games, crafts, music, fitness classes, sport programs and other recreational activities,” city officials said in a news release.
Public facility tours will happen every 15 minutes all weekend.
City staff will also be at the facility all weekend helping people get ready to register for spring/summer programming. Registration opens March 4 at 7 a.m. in the Etobicoke York district and the most popular programs are expected to fill up in minutes. Staff will talk to those attending about the registration process, help them get family and client numbers and more.
Once the centre is fully open on Feb. 21, regular hours will be Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for drop-in programs.
