Students raise funds for child hunger

North York Mirror

The Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) is hosting a week of events from Oct. 3 to 7 marked by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) as Feeding Toronto's Hungry Students Week.

TFSS, an arm's-length charity of the TDSB, will be holding such events as TTC Take Over Days with hundreds of high school students occupying 18 subway stations during the evening rush hour to talk about student hunger and distribute donation cards.

"Feeding Toronto's Hungry Students Week is a significant event and we all need to be involved," said Chris Spence, TDSB education director, in a statement. "It provides an opportunity for students to get out in their communities and help raise awareness for child hunger."

Participating schools will provide a nutritious lunch to students with part of every sale going to combat student hunger. Both staff and students will also collect change for the Change 4 Change Coin Drive.

Other events at schools across the TDSB include soccer and dodgeball tournaments, talent and karaoke nights, and car washes to raise funds.
