As a pilot and former worker at Pearson International Airport, I can't help but be saddened by the mis-directed efforts of public servants trying to keep passengers safe. At what point does thecure become worse than the disease?
The latest measures including full body scans and pat-downs are ludicrous. Imagine, the pilots, who are going to actually fly the plane and could easily kill everyone on board, are made to undergo these scans.
This is the result of a society that will not accept mortality or risk. We want everything we do to fall under the insincere claims of the government that it is "safe".
Well, that is patently not so. You can scan and pat-down grandmothers and small children until the cows come home and never prevent a single terrorist act.
The truth is, airport security is a sop to today's citizen who wants an absolute guarantee that nothing in his life will ever go wrong. I'm not sure I'll ever again set foot on an airplane that I'm not flying myself.
