Who knew a trip to some garden promoting biodiversity would be fun?
I've visited a few gardens back home, back in the day, with my parents, and I'm almost always grimacing in the family portraits.
Yeah, a trip to the gardens was never really my idea of fun.
But it was definitely the highlight today as we took the kids at the orphanage out on a field trip to Lowveld National Botanical Garden.
It's Women's Day, a national holiday in South Africa, and the plan was to give the house mothers a little break.
All the kids were excited about going to the botanical garden. We learned that many local youth don't get much opportunity to leave their community due to lack of transportation.
So this field trip was definitely a treat for them. You can tell by the smiles on their faces and their genuine sense of wonder.
For me, this experience was just another reminder of the things I take for granted.
