The seventh in a series of journal entries written while in South Africa.
Today being a day of rest -- a rare occasion for all of us -- I had the opportunity to reflect a bit on the progress our team has made since arriving in South Africa just 10 days ago.
It feels like we've been in South Africa for weeks.
Not merely because of all the things we were able to do since our arrival, but more so because of the relationships we were able to forge
with the kids here at the children's village.
It's incredible how they've opened up to us and allowed us to get close to them in a relatively short period of time.
All they really want to do is interact, whether it's teaching them how to play guitar or helping them look for pecans on the ground.
More often than not, it's as simple as saying hello every morning and just playing with them.
I've come to realize that these kids have experienced more hardships than most of us, and that measuring our own progress and accomplishments don't even come close to the progress and accomplishments these kids have already made -- especially at such a young age.
