If you're a fan of toaster waffles known as Eggos you may want to head to the grocery store before the great Eggo shortage of 2009 kicks in. That's right, Kellogg's has announced that it's halting production of the toasted treats, and warns that it could be mid-2010 before stocks are back up to normal levels. This is no time for waffling, (ha ha) so if you love your Eggos, get yourself to a supermarket pronto. If you go the Eggo website you'll be able to read about the shortage at the top of the page and sign up for updates.
Personally, my breakfast is quite complete without such processed food, and the waffles are too shallow to hold the right amount of maple syrup for my tastes.
In more sweet news, Sherway Gardens is launching its Gingerbread Cookie Factory this weekend. It runs until Dec. 20. Decorating stations are open Fridays through Sundays. All proceeds go to the Trillium Health Centre for their birthing sweets. Cookies are $4 each, or three for $10.
Also on the gingerbread front, you can head over to Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas St. W. at 1:30 or 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 to make your own gingerbread house. Master Baker Monika Paradis hosts this hands-on workshop for kids of all ages. Each house costs $30 plus applicable taxes, pre-registration only. Call 416-394-8113.
