Local teams play for quad-A Ontario hoops, volleyball titles

City hockey final an all-Scarborough affair

What a week so far for Scarborough's high school sports teams.

Scarborough will be represented in both quad-A high school basketball and volleyball championship games tonight.

At the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) quad-A boys basketball championship game in Windsor, Scarborough's Mother Teresa, ranked third going into the tournament, are set to take on top seed Eastern Commerce from east Toronto.

In semifinal action earlier on Wednesday, Mother Teresa knocked off second ranked and two-time defending gold medalist Pickering High School from Ajax 60-44.

Eastern Commerce are in the championship game for the seventh time in the past eight years, hauling away four gold and two silver medals in that span.

Scarborough also had the fifth-ranked team, but West Hill Collegiate was upset in the quarterfinals.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Meanwhile, in the OFSAA quad-A gold medal girls volleyball game in Mississauga, Scarborough's Birchmount Park, seeded third, will take on ninth ranked Aurora.

Birchmount Park in their semifinal earlier on Wednesday knocked off top-ranked Waterdown 2-1 (26-28, 25-17, 15-10).

Meanwhile, Scarborough also had a shot to also be represented in the triple-A OFSAA championship in North Bay as Sir Oliver Mowat had advanced to the semifinals slated to be held Wednesday afternoon, 3:30 p.m.

Sir Oliver Mowat, also ranked third, are up against Oshawa's second ranked R.S. McLaughlin in the final.

BOYS HOCKEY

Meanwhile, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) city final, set for Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., also boiled down to two Scarborough teams - Birchmount Park and Sir Oliver Mowat.

In Tuesday's semifinal action, Sir Oliver Mowat defeated Humberside 3-1; Birchmount Park defeated Richview 4-1.
