I have just finished reading Lisa Rainford's article 'Looking for solutions to speeding' in the March 13 edition of The Villager. I would like to give you my comments.I was caught speeding there myself in the fall of last year. Imagine my surprise when an officer jumped out of the bushes to stop me for speeding. I am a frequent user of this road and in the past, I have coached soccer and hockey in the local area parks for over 20 years. I was not aware the speed limit had been reduce from 40 km/h down to 30 km/h. The problem is the reduced speed limited is not clear enough to drivers. The city doesn't do enough to inform the public of new reduced speed limits.
I believe they like the revenue generated by their current method of radar traps, and jumping out of bushes. The additional costs of insurance and fines for the motorists is not the solution to the problem. The introduction of speed bumps on the adjacent streets has also added to the volume on Runnymede south.
Safety of the public is always the first priority. I call upon the city to find a workable solution.
We could resort back to the method of walking in front of the vehicle waving a white flag with a 10 km/h limit.
