Orchids that have the aroma of chocolate could easily replace the quintessential gift of flowers and chocolate for loved ones this Valentine's Day.The Southern Ontario Orchid Society (SOOS) is hosting its annual show this Saturday and Sunday at The Toronto Botanical Garden, 777 Lawrence Ave. E. at Leslie Street.
The hybrid orchid Oncidium Sharry Baby, with its delicious aroma of chocolate, is one of the blooms that will be on display.
More than 30,000 orchid blooms will be showcased in the Floral Hall of the TBG. The displays and plants are judged, and ribbons are awarded based on criteria ranging from Best in Show to Best in Category.
Other show features include orchid plants for sale, orchid art and photography exhibits and competition, guided tours and free seminars, orchid help desk, gift items, and a tea room.
Admission is $10 for adults, children under 12 get in free. Proceeds go to the conservation and preservation of orchids.
