YORK: Man dies after kitchen fire

An 83-year-old male is dead after a fire in his home near Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue.

Officials responded around 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a bungalow on 17 Claybrook Street, where the man lived alone. They believe the blaze was caused by a "kitchen misadventure" that ended with the man's clothes catching fire, said Captain David Eckerman of Toronto Fire Services.

The blaze was out by the time fire crews arrived and damage to the home was minimal, Eckerman said.

The Fire Marshal's office will be conducting an investigation.
