Everyone has a teacher they remember as special, long after they've left the halls of their elementary or high school.
But if you're still in the school system, there's something you can do to say thank you.
The Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence recognizes educators and staff who excel at nurturing and unlocking the potential of students.
The awards are open to staff in Ontario's publicly funded schools and boards. You can nominate teachers, support staff, principals and vice-principals, supervisory officers and directors of education in six different categories.
But you don't have to be a student to file a nomination either. Parents, teachers and community members can nominate an individual they think has gone above and beyond the call of teaching.
The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31. Nomination forms can be found online at www.ontario.ca/teachingawards. While it can be completed online, it must be printed out and mailed in because the signature of the nominee is required. Keep in mind the nominee must agree to the nomination and sign a consent form.
Nomination packages should be mailed to: Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence, Curriculum Services Canada, 439 University Ave., Suite 1450, Toronto, ON, M5G 1Y8.
