Harper to the rescue, again

Re: 'Voter regrets supporting Conservative Party,' Dec. 31

Thank goodness Prime Minister Stephen Harper has stood up for all Canadians, otherwise the Conservative government that voters elected last October would've been replaced by a coalition that nobody voted for.

I was appalled to see Stephane Dion - a man already rejected as leader of the Liberal party - break his word and suddenly agree to work with the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP. It was a desperate gamble to grab power without regard for how most Canadians voted.

Right now, Canada needs a steady hand in Ottawa to keep our country strong and united.

Already, our Conservative government has negotiated economic guarantees to help Ontario's auto industry - a move praised by workers, executives and economists. The Conservatives created the new tax-free savings plan so all adult Canadians can more quickly build their savings for any purpose.

Under Prime Minister Harper, Ottawa has budgeted billions of federal dollars to improve our roads and public transit systems. In comparison, previous Liberal governments wasted taxpayers' money on scandalous spending schemes.

In this new year, politicians of all parties need to address the challenges facing Canadians rather than try to force another election.
