Toronto-based wedding dress designer Adele Wechsler has always geared her creations to the conscious bride.
A Native of Durban, South Africa, Wechsler's eco-views are even more evident with the unveiling of her recent Eco-Couture collection at her North York studio earlier this year.
"I'm always inspired by the notion of the 'world bride'. The bride who cares about the world in which we live. And it's not just about the dress."
For Wechsler, eco-couture started with her African-inspired Hello Africa collection, which had a humanitarian component.
"All the beading was beaded in Africa by a woman who earned much-needed fair trade wages."
For the eco-couture collection, Wechsler let nothing go to waste.
She used every piece of scrap fabric and her choice in materials were organic hemp and silk that were vegetable-dyed. Wechsler said she believes the less impact on the world, the more impact her dresses will make.
