I sometimes wonder, make that always wonder, why politicians make promises they know they won't keep.
During a walkabout last summer with Shelley Carroll, our councillor, we were promised that once construction started on the Bloorview site, the rusty rail on Leslie Street would disappear.
We were promised the sidewalks on the north side of Sheppard, east of Leslie would be fixed so the interlock continued instead of asphalt.
We were promised that landscape enhancements would be made to the areas on the north side of Sheppard, opposite the medical centre and North York General Hospital, from the seniors residence to the Sheppard Avenue-Leslie Street corner.
Take note of all the enhancements on side streets around the Canadian Tire Store, around Bayview Village, and on the north side of Sheppard Avenue opposite Canadian Tire.
I suppose all this work is to sharpen up the appearance of the city streets for the new development of the condo buildings now under construction, with no thought of satisfying the needs of longtime residents in the Shepways.
The Clovercrest Parkette, behind our townhouses, is a mess of weeds and poorly maintained.
The boulevards on Leslie are a mess, with very little care given to grass cutting, weeds growing in the sidewalks and trees overgrowing the walks on Clovercrest.
Many of the residents at the corner of Sheppard and Leslie exercise by walking in our neighbourhood, and, it would be great if once, we got to see our tax dollars at work around our homes. We have 250 homes at the corner of Sheppard and Leslie whose residents expect just a small amount of consideration, not empty promises.
